Objective : The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of time-use intervention on occupational participation and self-esteem for the elderly.
Methods : From July 5 to September 17, 20 elderly people at the center for dementia were divided into an experimental group and a control group. Model of Human Occupation Screening Tool(MOHOST) was used for occupational participation, and Self-Esteem Inventory(SEI) was used for self-esteem.
Results : There was a significant difference in both occupational participation and self-esteem in the experimental group and the control group before and after intervention (p<.05). In both experimental group and the control group, there was a significant difference in occupational participation and self-esteem, and the change in the experimental group was greater than that of the control group (p<.05). As a result of the study, all groups that conducted dementia prevention programs showed improvement in occupational participation and self-esteem, and the experimental group using time-use intervention had a greater effect.
Conclusion : This study found that time-use intervention was effective in improving occupational participation and self-esteem in elderly. Thus, if research and supplementation of continuous time-use intervention is conducted, it is expected to have a positive effect on life and improve physical and emotional health by providing opportunities to participate in various activities for the elderly's successful old age.
